Ascent Systems Selected as Finalist in COAST Innovation Challenge

Ascent Systems Technologies is pleased to announce that the company has been selected as one of four finalists in the COAST Innovation Challenge, delivered through Innovate BC’s Integrated Marketplace platform.

The challenge supports the development and commercialization of innovative clean-energy technologies aimed at helping the Canadian Coast Guard decarbonize land-based operations in remote coastal areas of British Columbia. Participating companies are tasked with developing rapidly deployable, modular, and scalable renewable energy solutions capable of reducing reliance on diesel fuel logistics while improving operational resilience.

Ascent Systems will advance AEMS-COAST, an adaptation of the company’s Autonomous Environment Monitoring and Surveillance (AEMS) platform for harsh coastal and maritime environments. The system integrates renewable energy generation, energy storage, intelligent power management, and communications into a rugged autonomous platform designed for long-duration remote deployment.

The COAST project builds on prior successful government testing of the AEMS platform with Transport Canada and represents the next stage in expanding Ascent’s autonomous systems for real-world operational use.

“We designed our autonomous platform to operate in the harshest Canadian conditions and have already validated it in remote environments,” said Volodimir Grebenyuk, CEO of Ascent Systems Technologies. “The COAST Challenge allows us to demonstrate its robustness and resilience in maritime coastal settings, supporting the Canadian Coast Guard with critical services while reducing reliance on diesel fuel and lowering carbon footprint.”

Ascent Systems appreciates the support of COAST, Innovate BC, and the Canadian Coast Guard, and looks forward to contributing to the continued growth of British Columbia’s marine innovation ecosystem.
